The Benelux Business Council is pleased to invite you to the first session of our new bi-weekly series in which members and board members discuss the impact of Covid-19 on their business.

To kick-start the series we are pleased to introduce Frank Wouters. Frank has extensive experience in renewable energy having led renewable energy projects, transactions and technology developments for 30 years. Today he serves as Director to the EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network, Global Lead Green Hydrogen at Worley. He previously held the role of Deputy Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). Frank provides companies and organizations with strategic advice to meet their renewable energy goals, as well as aiding them with projects and management. He is a current board member for the BBC and has served on the board for the past 10 years.

Below is an insight into the this weeks topic:

With the urgent need to tackle climate change, the ongoing energy transition aims to decarbonize, among other things, the way we work, travel, generate electricity and provide heating and cooling for buildings. The energy transition, aiming for net zero carbon energy systems in many parts of the world by 2050, has progressed in the electricity sector, with most new power plants now being solar and wind farms. But also, electric cars have become a real option and the numbers are rising steeply.

However, the COVID19-induced global recession has led to a reduction in demand for energy and hence lower prices for oil and gas. This disproportionally affects the Gulf region, with heavy reliance on oil and gas. The webinar takes stock of the current situation and analyses the impact on the energy transition globally and closer to home.
